Interact Club

The Rio Vista High School Interact Club is run in conjunction with the Rio Vista Rotary Club. Students aged 12-18 participate in order to learn the value of Service Above Self. Interact members connect with community leaders in order to:

  • Take action to make a difference in their school and community
  • Discover new cultures and promote international understanding
  • Become a leader in their school and community
  • Have fun and make new friends from around the world.

Interact members organize at least two projects of their own each year, one to help their school or community and the other to promote international standing. The Club’s Interact Co-ordinator works with the school and the Interact members to guide, but not run, activities. Members can also attend our Club’s weekly breakfast meetings and participate in planning, running and helping out at the Club’s major fundraising events, such as the Golf Tournament and Rio Vista Bass Festival and Derby.

Camp Royal

Our District is one of 529 districts which make up the global organization Rotary International (RI), headquartered in Evanston, Illinois.  As a member of this precious club, we believe we are stronger as a team of leaders from various sectors and age groups.

As an organization, it is important to members that we not only provide community service but also grow our next generation of leaders.  To that end, Rotary International developed a Youth Leadership Program – Camp Royal.  Camp Royal is an annual leadership training program for high school juniors, funded and run by Rotary District 5160.  Founded in 1979, Camp Royal has become one of the top leadership camps for incoming high school seniors in the country.

Camp Royal is the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) Conference organized each June in the mountains of northern California.  The 71 Rotary Clubs of Rotary International District 5160 have been providing this leadership learning opportunity since 1979. The program is open to outstanding high school juniors who will enter their senior year in the fall before the annual event.

Students from throughout the district are selected competitively to attend.  During the weeklong camp, students develop advanced leadership skills by working with professional mentors, counselors, educators, keynote speakers, peers and Rotarians.  It also provides students an opportunity to learn to: take responsibility for themselves and the outcome of their decisions, collaborate in small teams to accomplish tasks they could not do alone, and experience the process of inspiring a large group to achieve a common goal.

To put together such an event requires volunteers, staff, equipment, supplies and funding.  While many of the participating Rotary Clubs pay for students to attend the camp, expenses are not fully addressed.  Therefore, we rely on the support of generous individuals and businesses in our community.

This (2025) year’s Camp Royal will be a virtual (online) event because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Grade 11 students at Rio Vista High School can apply to attend using this form.

Scholarships

Our Club awards scholarships to worthy students every year. The application form is made available to the Interact club members and is awarded just before High School Graduation. On average, the Club awarded six scholarships annually.
